The German airport security staff have announced their intention to embark on strike on Thursday, February 1 due to an impasse in negotiations.
According to trade union Verdi, about 25,000 workers are anticipated to participate in the all-day work stoppage.
The walkout is scheduled to begin early tomorrow morning at
Berlin's Frankfurt Airport as well as nine other airports throughout Germany.
The union is requesting increased pay for its members, and these workers are in
charge of staff, baggage, and passenger checks. Airport operations are
anticipated to be disrupted by the strike.
A year ago, airport closures caused disruptions to air
traffic throughout Germany due to industrial action. The Federal Association of Air Security Businesses (BDLS) opposed the plans and pointed out that
a regional strike on public transportation was set for this Friday. Verdi's
acts, they claimed, "match the GDL," the railway workers' union,
which issued a demand for a six-day strike last week. They have yet to be formally informed of the strike.
