Japan has announced the introduction of a visa program for highly skilled professionals to live and work remotely in the country for up to six months starting in March 2024.
With the help of this visa program, remote workers,
freelancers, and IT experts can spend up to six months living and working in
Japan while taking in the breathtaking scenery and dynamic culture of the
nation. This is an attempt to draw in a different kind of traveller.
To be eligible for a 6-month resident
visa in Japan, digital nomads must have private health insurance, be nationals of one of
the 50 nations with visa waiver agreements with Japan, and earn at least
$68,000 annually. For self-employed people to be qualified, their primary
source of revenue from business must be overseas. If they have private health
insurance, they may bring spouses and kids as well as other family members.
According to the Ministry of Labour, the number of foreign workers in Japan has increased by
12.4% and has now surpassed 2 million for
the first time. This increase is linked to a developing pattern of foreign
talent flooding Japan's employment market. With 518,364 workers, Vietnamese
workers comprised 25.3% of the foreign labour force. There were 397,918 workers
from China and 226,846 workers from the Philippines. Out of all the
nationalities, Indonesia saw the biggest growth, increasing its workforce
presence in Japan by 56%. This demonstrates the advantages of long-term stays
in Japan for digital nomads.
