Enugu Airport Reopens, After One Year Closure

Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu sets for the reopening for local and international flight operations on Sunday 30 August after one year closure.


The international airport was closed down in August 2019 to give room for repair and rehabilitation of deteriorating runway and other facilities of the airport.

According to the Nigerian minister of aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika who arrived at the Airport on Saturday accompanied by Anambra based Businessman, Chief Arthur Eze, Fidelis Anosike among others stated, all is now set for the reopening of the airport. 

The minister, after a tour of the rebranded runway, expressed his gratitude as the works were completed with the approved funds and within the targeted time frame.

“We are ready for the reopening. We landed on the runway and the remaining news will be on Sunday. We are grateful, we were able to achieve this and within the approved budget for it,” he said.

“I can confirm to you that work has been completed in line with the standard agreed. We are happy and I am sure the people are happy.” the minister added.
