FG Deployed More Flights To Evacuate Nigerians From UAE

The Federal Government of Nigeria, on Wednesday, announced the deployment of three aircraft to evacuate more Nigerians from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) before the deadline by the end of August.

Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, stated this at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos while receiving 95 girls from Lebanon.

She said the evacuation flights were mobilized following the order from the UAE authorities to illegal immigrants to leave the country within the stipulated time.

Authorities in the UAE had earlier given all illegal immigrants till the first week of August to leave the country before extending the deadline till September 11, 2020.

"Many Nigerians had been contacted in the city, But not too many of them wanted to return home.” The chairman said.

She added that “Notwithstanding, with the permission of President Muhammadu Buhari, we will do all we can to bring those that are willing home. The quit notice by UAE is not for all Nigerians in Dubai, but those that are there illegally.”

The Nigerian government has evacuated close to 3,000 citizens from the Arab country since it began evacuation in June.
