North East of Nigeria.
Six states fall under this geopolitical zone of the country. They include Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe. These states are mainly populated by the Fulani and Kanuri ethnic groups. However, you will find several other minority ethnic groups in this zone.
The North-Eastern region of Nigeria boasts of several tourist attractions and several places of interest.
There is the Sukur Cultural Landscape and Koma Hills in Adamawa. The Sukur Cultural Landscape was the first inscribed UNESCO World Heritage Site in Africa. A lot of sightseeing and hiking opportunities are available for adventurous tourists.
On the Koma Hills, you get to see the hill dwellers who are far removed from civilization. They have a unique belief system, customs, and practices that you will find interesting.
Bauchi is where you will find the nationally renowned Yankari Game Reserve. The Yankari is the most developed and largest Reserve in Nigeria. Here, you get to have a first-class wildlife experience and browse through the gallery of displays in the museum.
In Bornu, you will find the Jaffi Falls and Lake Chad Game Sanctuary. Jaffi Falls is very suitable for fishing, excursions, and swimming. There are also government provided restaurants and chalet for tourist comfort. At The Lake Chad Game Sanctuary, you will find several rare and endangered species.
Another tourist attraction is the Palace of Gombe's Emir. A fantastic architectural combination of modern designs, the palace is worth seeing. It is also where the Durbar Festival is always celebrated. The state is also home to several unique hills, which are good tourist centers.
You will find the Gasaka-Gumti National Park and Gembu in Taraba. Regarded as one of the country's best-kept tourist centers, Gashaka-Gumti is a vast terrain of flora and fauna. It is also Africa's first bird-watching location. Gembu is home to varieties of birds, chimpanzees, and the likes.
Yobe is also another Northeast state of interest. Places of interest include Dufuna Canoe(oldest boat in Africa), Dagona Birds Sanctuary, and several others.
People in North-Eastern states speak several languages, but the most common ones are Fulfulde and Hausa. Each state also has its festivals like the Kamti Festival, Bade Fishing & Cultural Festival, and the Durbar Festival.
