England Reduces Quarantine Period To 5 Days

 England has announced the reduction of the quarantine period for arriving passengers to five days.

According to the reports, the new five days quarantine period will take effect from December 15 and will be allowed only, if a negative result is obtained after the test is taken.

According to the UK's Transport Secretary Grant Shapps who announced the new development on Tuesday, November 24th, the new quarantine measures will take effect from December 15, and will allow arriving passengers from any country not on the government’s quarantine free list to reduce their quarantine period from the current 14 days to 5 days.

Shapps added that the new measure will only apply to arrivals in England while Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland will have to observe their own rules separately.

"Arriving passengers must isolate for five days and must take a COVID-19 test after the 5th day, and if the test comes out negative, they can end quarantine immediately." He stated.

“Our new testing strategy will allow us to travel more freely, see loved ones, and drive international business. By giving people the choice to test on day five, we are also supporting the travel industry as it continues to rebuild out of the pandemic.” the Transport Secretary said.

There is no doubt that the new testing measures will help the travel industry that has been struggling due to the Covid-19 virus and the implementation of quarantine measures.

According to London Heathrow airport's boss, John Holland-Kaye, "the reduction in the quarantine period for travelers returning to Britain from fourteen to five days is a welcomed development as a start. But not enough in itself to get back to business as usual". 

He added that "the new regime due to come into effect on December 15 would be better than we have at the moment but was not the end solution”.
