AIR FRANCE-KLM REINTRODUCES TRANSIT VISAS FOR NIGERIANS

Nigerians travelling to the UK will now have to be in possession of an Airport Transit Visa (ATV) if they wish to transit through France and the Netherlands. This follows the reintroduction of transit visa for the citizens of Nigeria and some other countries by the Air France-KLM.

Air France-KLM reintroduces ATV for citizens of some countries including Nigeria and Ghana, travelling to the United Kingdom after Brexit.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the airline on Tuesday 29, December 2020.

It stated, after Brexit, January 1, 2021, citizens of Nigeria and some other African coutries with some Asian countries who are holders of a British visa, long-stay visa or a residence permit issued by the British authorities will need to be in possession of an Airport Transit Visa (ATV) if they transit through France or the Netherlands.

However, the airline stated that citizens of the affected countries holding valid visa or residence permit from Canada, Japan, USA or Euopean countries in addition to the UK visa/residence permit are allowed to transit through France or the Netherlandswithout ATV.

Meanwhile, the Dutch Minister of Justice and Security has decided to waive the ATV requirements for transit at Schiphol Airport for Nigerian nationals with a valid UK visa or residence permit until 1 February, 2021.
