London Heathrow Airport has announced that terminal 4 of the airport will remain shut until the end of 2021 as the number of passengers continues to drop due to travel restrictions.
The management of the airport says passenger's numbers have dropped drastically as a result of travel restrictions. The number fell by 88% in November compared to the same period in the past year. It blamed the second lockdown in November for the fall.
The airport is now calling on the government for support to protect jobs and help drive economic recovery.
It also calls for full business rates relief for all UK airports and abandoning what it describes as the “disastrous tourist tax," or as known as the abolition of tax-free shopping in the country from 1 January 2021. The move is expected to result in 2,000 retail job losses at Heathrow alone. The airport stated.
