Heathrow Postpones Terminal-3 Reopening Over Insecurity

The management of London Heathrow Airport has postponed the reopening of Terminal 3 of the airport due to the present insecurity being witnessed by the airport and rolling travel limitations enforced by the UK government.

The reopening of Terminal 3, which was shut down in April 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic made its primary arc around the world, was earlier scheduled to welcome back selected airlines and travelers from the 17th of May, with Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines among the first set of operators to resume, has been postponed again till the end of May 2021.

A Heathrow representative said to the Executive Traveler “We are going to arrange for the restart of international travel and setting plans in place to scale up our actions and restarting operations in Terminal 3.

Without approval from the Government and continuous insecurity around country categorization, we now consider that the earliest Terminal 3 could reopen on the 24 of May."

"We will continue to save this date in the journal and look forward to the coming Government announcement."

After the closure of Terminal 3 and 4 in April last year, all airlines flying in and out of Heathrow have been operating from Terminals 2 and 5, though a stable uptick in air travel has caused pressure to bring some airlines back to their minor homes.

According to the Heathrow spokesperson, "Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic are looking forward to receiving back customers to London Heathrow’s Terminal 3 as they are likely to be the first to commence service at the Terminal."

He added that "The airlines continue to work together with Heathrow Airport to enable a smooth return once the Terminal reopens."
