People in the Tourism and Hospitality industry have once again come together today Monday, 27 September 2021 to mark this year's World Tourism Day.
The World Tourism Day is an annual event coming up on the 27th of September each year. World Tourism is a United Nations agency programme for the promotion of responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism. Established on this day in 1970, and was first celebrated on the 27, September 1980.
World Tourism day is aimed to create awareness on how tourism affects social-cultural, political, and economic values globally and the role of tourism within the international community.
The theme for this year's World Tourism Day is “Tourism for Inclusive Growth,” focusing on growth and inclusive recovery. The organization is focusing on the fact that there are people behind every tourism statistic and aims to acknowledge the same.
To celebrate this year's Tourism Day, the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies NANTA, Western Zone with the representatives of Oyo State Ministry of tourism embarked on a journey to Ado Awaye.
Ado Awaye is a small town and home to a fascinating history and tourist attractions that housed one of the two suspended lakes in the world. It lies about 20km West of Iseyin, Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State. The suspended lake is housed on one of the crests of rocks commonly referred to as the “sleeping lion”.
Ado-Awaye has been gaining media attention for quite some time after it was discovered that it houses the historic suspended lake. Ado Awaye may be a small town in Oyo state, and in Nigeria, but everything about it is a wonder because of the formation of its mountains and plains.

Till today, whoever enters the lake never comes out of it. It is said to be the main god of fertility of the Mountain.
The town people believe that another world exists beneath the lake, and whoever transits into that world by diving into the lake will never come back to our own world here again.
