COVID-19: United Airline To Fire 600 Workers For Refusing To Take Vaccine

No fewer than 600 United Airlines workers are on the verge of losing their jobs for failing to comply with the company's Covid-19 protocol. The airline in its statement confirmed it will relieve the said number of staff from their duties for failure to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

United Airlines has since August mandated vaccines to its employees which makes the carrier the first United States operator to impose the vaccine on domestic workers.

According to the reports, September 27 was set as the deadline for the workers to receive their complete dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, but many workers failed to meet up the deadline. However, those who refused the vaccine will be dismissed by October 2.

“The company would begin the process of firing the employees who refused to be vaccinated against COVID-19." The Airline stated in a memo released by Chief Executive Scott Kirby and President Brett Hart.

According to the executives of United Airline, “about 99 percent of domestic employees have chosen to get vaccinated, excluding those who submitted for an accommodation.”

But “for the less than a percent of people who decided to not get vaccinated, we’ll, unfortunately, begin the process of separation from the airline per our policy,” the memo reads. “This was an incredibly difficult decision but keeping our team safe has always been our first priority. The pandemic is now killing more than 2,000 people per day, a 65 percent increase in just the past 30 days, and the most effective way to keep our people safe is to make sure they get vaccinated.”
