African Airways (SAA) and its Kenyan counterpart have entered a long-term cooperation agreement that will create a pan-African carrier.
The move is aimed at helping the operators' post-Covid recovery and also longer-term co-operation plans.
South African Airways (SAA) just recovered from bankruptcy and has flown its first plane a week ago since March 2020.
According to South African Airways spokesperson Vimla Maistry. "SAA is signing a memorandum of cooperation with Kenya Airways, a welcome and strategic partnership with a longer-term view to co-starting a pan-African airline group."
She added that the next step is for both airlines to further finetune the
memorandum.
SAA happened to be one of the biggest airlines in Africa but has been struggling, cutting routes, and surviving on government bailouts before the pandemic. Restarting a full business has also been another challenge for the one-time second-biggest airline in Africa due to a shortage of planes.
A collaboration with another airline will no doubt boost the post-pandemic business recovery for the carrier.
