Australia has announced the reopening of its borders to foreign visa holders. The country's Covid-19 travel restriction would be eased for Foreigners with valid visas in its bid to revive the economy. It says.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Monday, November 22, that "the country will allow vaccinated students, business visa holders, and refugees to enter the country from the beginning of December".
This comes in as the country takes further steps to restart international travel and economic recovery.
Australia had shut its international border in May 2020 to curb the spread of growing coronavirus cases.
Morrison added that “The return of skilled workers and students to Australia is a major milestone in our pathway back. Australia will allow in vaccinated tourists from South Korea and Japan from December 1,2021.”
“The return of foreign students, who are worth about A$35 billion ($25 billion) a year to the Australian economy, will be a major boost for the education sector.”
“More than 235,000 foreigners, including about 160,000 students, held visas for Australia at the end of October, government data has revealed." He Stated.
Australian universities rely on foreign students, who make up about 21% of total enrolments, and the border closure led higher education facilities to lay off hundreds of staff.
Meanwhile, many students locked out of Australia said they would switch to alternative universities if they are unable to commence physical learning next year.
