Qatar has announced the suspension of all visitors from the country during the FIFA World Cup tournament coming later in the year.
According to the Qatari Ministry of Interior, travelers who are not participating in the FIFA World Cup 2022 are subject to these new rules from November 1 to December 23. This implies that travelers who want to visit Qatar on a visitor visa for purposes aside from the FIFA World Cup 2022 will be denied. While travelers who intend to attend the FIFA World Cup should be informed that to enter Qatar and participate in the tournament, they must first obtain a Hayya Card.
The Qatar Hayya Card is a fan ID issued by the
Qatari government for attendees of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The document,
which is a replacement for the entry visa, will only be valid for the
competition. This document may be requested by foreign citizens who intend to
visit Qatar to watch matches and remain there till January 23, 2023.
The suspension of entry according to the Qatari Ministry of Interior applies to travelers arriving by land, air, and sea. Citizens of Qatar, the country's residents, GCC nationals who possess a Qatar ID card, and those with valid personal visas and work entrance permits are exempt from the rule. Approved humanitarian cases are also exempt.
International travelers who aren't participating
in the FIFA World Cup should be aware that they won't be allowed to enter the
country between November 1 and December 23 unless they fit into one of the
exemption categories. On December 23, 2022, following the conclusion of the
2022 FIFA World Cup, the restriction is expected to be removed.
