London's
Heathrow airport is requesting airlines to cease ticket sales on inbound
flights over Christmas, to limit disruption that may occur from immigration workers' strike.
According to UK Border Force, airports should limit demand for arrivals during the protests to no more than 80%. Heathrow claimed that rather than being enforced arbitrarily, the decision to halt sales was taken in consultation with Virgin and BA.
Employees are expected to go on strike over pay from December 23 to December 31 at Heathrow and other significant UK hubs. It's the first-holiday travel rush since
Covid limitations were loosened. Although there will be lines for those who
cannot utilize the electronic entry gates, Heathrow claims there won't be
any significant impact.
According to
BA, passengers should be able to adjust their flight dates as scheduled. Border
Force's supervisor, the UK Home Force, had no comments regarding the situation.
Regarding Heathrow's assertion that it requested the passenger cap, the UK Home
Office, which oversees Border Force, remained silent immediately.
