India To Commence Random COVID Testing For All International Passengers

India is set to begin random COVID testing for all incoming foreign travellers. The majority of COVID-related regulations were loosened last month, but the nation is still choosing to test a small portion of foreign travelers to be safe.

On December 24 at 10:00, the new regulation will take effect. To communicate with airport operators and AirPort Health Offices, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote to Rajiv Bansal in the Aviation Ministry. The most recent development occurs as China, India's neighbor, fights an unprecedented rise in new COVID infections.

The letter states that after the passengers have undergone testing, they will be allowed to depart the airport. The airlines will identify the travelers. A sample will be sent to an authorized lab for genetic analysis if it is discovered positive. Additionally to APHOS, a copy of the report will be distributed to the government's Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme. Ultimately, the responsible state or union territory will choose the next measures.

A decrease in virus severity and an increase in vaccination rates worldwide provided authorities the confidence to relax most regulations to ease travel. The only requirement of the new guidelines is random testing; as of yet, there have been no rumors about the return of additional regulations. Arriving travelers are no longer needed to be completely immunized as of November 22nd, however, the government still encourages them to be.

In India, a form that permitted travelers to register their COVID status has been eliminated. The form is no longer necessary for foreign flights, even though it was judged essential during the pandemic's peak. It's too early to say whether China's rise in COVID cases will change how other nations manage their borders.
