Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Set To Relax Passenger Cap

In anticipation of the busy summer season, Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is set to relax its passenger cap. The airport will no longer impose daily passenger movement restrictions starting on March 26. The airport continues to prepare for difficulties during the busiest morning times, particularly in the morning.

Since June 2022, the airport has enforced a daily passenger movement cap. During the turbulence of the previous year's travel, it was one of the worst-affected European airports, suffering from lengthy delays, flight cancellations, and crowding.

The CEO, Amsterdam Schiphol Ruud Sondag in a statement says, "I am happy for our travelers, employees, and airlines with the progress we have made together. It looks good towards the May holidays, From the start of the 2023 season at the end of March, we will continue to scale up and we will do so in a reasonable and phased manner in the interest of those same travelers, employees, and airline."

The airport authority stated that airport restrictions are no longer necessary. And as part of the government initiative to reduce noise and air pollution, the airport may soon have to enforce new flight limitations. The changes, which are anticipated to go into effect in November will result in a 12% reduction in air volume to 440,000 flights annually.

Ruud Sondag added, "We are not going to take any risks. We want to once again offer the quality and certainty that everyone can expect of Schiphol. That's why we are working with our partners at the airport to tackle the remaining bottlenecks as we head towards the May holidays and beyond."

In the upcoming weeks, AMS will hold additional consultations, particularly with airlines, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee police, and handling agents, to develop strategies for managing the peak-season flow of travelers and avoiding a repeat of last year.
