The Australian government has announced that TOEFL iBT will
no longer be accepted for visa purposes, and alternative options like IELTS One
Skill Retake (OSR) will be considered.
Starting on July 26, the Department of Home Affairs of Australia will no longer accept TOEFL iBT scores for visa applications. Before this time, TOEFL scores were accepted for visa reasons; however, the Australian government will not accept them going forward.
The Australian government continues to accept marks from several other recognised English language examinations even if the TOEFL iBT
is being stopped. These include the Occupational English Test (OET), which is
tailored exclusively for healthcare professionals, the Pearson Test of English
(PTE), Cambridge English (CAE), also known as C1 Advanced and the
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with One Skill Retake
(OSR) option.
IELTS test takers now have the option to retake one of the
four test components once, known as One Skill Retake (OSR). IELTS test scores
with OSR will be recognised for Australian immigration applications, except for subclasses 476, 482, and 485, which require scores from a single
attempt. The update intends to simplify the procedure for determining English
language proficiency and to offer precise instructions on approved exams.
Applicants should go to the official website of Australia's Department of Home
Affairs for more details.
