British Airways is planning to expand its Avios-only
services to five more routes next summer, ahead of key changes to the Executive
Club.
This announcement was made one month ahead of the airline's inaugural Avios-only trip, which will depart from London Gatwick on November 3 and go to Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. On these routes, all seats are available to British Airways Executive Club Members only as Rewards Seats. This enables customers to use Avios rewards points to purchase a seat on the selected aircraft.
The airline is providing an additional 1,250 summer vacation
fares starting at just £1 + 25,500 Avios to members of its loyalty programme.
Customers can swap points for seats on a flight by purchasing Avios-only seats
like standard reward seats. Each cabin has seats available for redemption in
exchange for the necessary number of Avios. Holders of British Airways American
Express credit cards can use their Companion Vouchers to entitle members to a
second seat for just the taxes and charges or one seat for half the amount of
Avios. British Airways guarantees a minimum of 12 and 14 reward seats on its
standard short and long-haul flights.
The first flight will leave in November, then there will be two more in November, and the subsequent journey from Gatwick to Lanzarote will take place in December. Easter 2024 will see an expansion of the programme, with flights departing from March 29 to April 7, 2024. Executive Club travellers will be attracted by the inclusion of Florence, Mallorca, Faro, Corfu, and Ibiza since they might find it difficult to get seats during busy travel times. Over 180 seats were reserved for the initial Avios-only flight, which sold out in less than 24 hours. Given that it gives travellers in the Executive Club more options, the programme is anticipated to be well-liked.
