Kenya has announced a new entrance visa policy for all foreign nationals, allowing them to stay in the country
for up to 90 days for tourism or business. The implementation includes introducing an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system for non-East
African Community (EAC) nationals, ensuring a fast and secure entry experience.
The ETA system, which costs USD 30 and takes up to three business days to process, has attracted the first batch of international tourists and strengthened Kenya's tourism industry. This decision demonstrates Kenya's commitment to creating a hospitable atmosphere for overseas visitors, attracting the first batch of international tourists.
Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda
are among the EAC member countries free from the ETA requirement. Once the
Democratic Republic of the Congo and Somalia's petitions for EAC membership are
approved, the exemption will be extended to them. To acquire an ETA, go to the
Official Government website and register. Fill in the blanks with information
on your trip, personal information, and travel papers. The ETA costs USD 30 and
typically takes three business days to process. For an additional fee,
expedited processing is possible.
Kenya's visa-free entry system requires travellers to present
a valid passport, hotel reservation confirmation, and personal information.
Additional documentation may be required for exit strategies. Processing time
is typically three business days, with expedited processing available for an
additional fee. Successful applicants receive an email confirming their ETA,
which must be printed, shown to immigration officers, or saved on a mobile app.
Basic documents like passport, flight confirmation,
lodging proof, invitation letter, and company registration paperwork are required for business travellers. The ETA is valid for one journey and must be replaced for future
visits. E-visas obtained before the ETA introduction can be used until they
expire. The e-visa portal will be decommissioned, demonstrating Kenya's
transition away from visa requirements. The government assures travellers that
the system will be operational soon.
