Top Countries With Skill Shortages & Work Visa Options

As people continue to relocate from their home countries to other parts of the world in search of greener pastures, many people's cases are ''from bad to worse'' because they do not know the right place to relocate to while others do not have deep knowledge of their destinations before they moved.

The article examines the creative work visa programs that nations including Japan, Germany, Denmark, Chile, Ireland, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, the UAE, and North America are offering in response to skill shortages.

These programs address the crucial problem of skills not matching company needs while simultaneously attempting to close the skills gap and increase economic growth and productivity.

Skill shortages in industries like IT, healthcare, manufacturing, construction, eldercare, education, and robotics are a result of ageing populations, declining birth rates, global rivalry, automation, digitization, and inadequate educational systems. Restrictive immigration laws may also prevent skilled foreign workers from entering the country, putting the labour market under pressure.

To address these gaps, various programs have been implemented, such as the Specified Skilled Worker Program, Highly Skilled Professionals Program, J-Skip Visa, Future Creation Individual Visa (J-Find Visa), Opportunity Card, EU Blue Card, and shortened residency for skilled workers. The EU Blue Card simplifies the residency process for highly qualified individuals with relevant skills in specific occupations, while lists of skilled workers and the Positive List classify occupations with a shortage of skilled workers. Skill gaps can also be addressed through immigration programs based on national lists, such as Temporary Skill Shortage Visas for qualified foreign workers to temporarily stay in Australia and talented Independent Visas for professionals seeking permanent residency.
