Labour Shortage: Japan Invites 820,000 Nigerians And Other Foreign Workers

The Japanese government has announced that is seeking about 820,000 Nigerians and other foreign workers to fill various vacant posts as the country faces a labour shortage.

The government says that it is seeking 820,000 foreign workers in the transportation and logistics sectors under its skilled work visa scheme for the next five years.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi has requested relevant ministers to make preparations for the acceptance of foreign workers without further delay and to make efforts to realize an inclusive society.

The labour shortage in Japan which has been tagged the "2024 Problem"  has made it mandatory for the country to demand foreign labour, especially in the transportation and logistics sectors, which may soon worsen.

"skilled foreigners will be recruited as drivers in the road transportation sector, including buses, taxis, and trucks, by certified companies." Japanese government stated.
