The government intends to implement
a single permit, compliant with the EU's Single Permit Directive, that
integrates permissions for employment and residency. The application
process is currently somewhat complex, requiring separate submissions to the
Department of Justice for visas and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and
Employment for work permits.
Minister for Justice Helen McEntee
emphasized the benefits of introducing a single permission, stating it would
reduce costs and complexity for employers and applicants, enabling swift and
effective responses to the economy's skills needs.
It is anticipated that the EU Single Permit Directive will cut expenses, ease administrative difficulties for both businesses and employees, and remove obstacles to luring in critical skills for industries like healthcare and construction.
In order to facilitate the process of families reunifying in Ireland, the Department of Justice is improving the waiting periods and other elements of the Non-EEA Family Reunification Policy.
The business community, in spite of
the difficulties in recruiting qualified staff, is supporting the government's
