Denmark Launches New Digital EU Residence Application Forms

Denmark has modernised its EU residence application process by introducing four new digital forms, as announced by the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) on May 19, 2025. This initiative aims to create a faster, more accessible, and user-friendly experience for EU citizens seeking residence, particularly those applying via mobile devices like smartphones or tablets.

The new system replaces the previous single online form, OD1, with four distinct, tailored forms. These include the OD1A form for EU/EEA/Swiss citizens or posted service providers, the OD1B form for their family members, the OD1C form for individuals seeking permanent EU residence after meeting the necessary qualifying period in Denmark under EU rules, and the OD1D form for applicants needing to update the basis of their current EU residence.

Significant enhancements accompany this change, such as optimisation for mobile and tablet use, the introduction of digital signatures, which eliminates the need for a sworn declaration (likely using Denmark's MitID system), and the capacity for applicants to track their application's progress online through their profiles.

These digital applications will lead to quicker processing times than traditional paper submissions. While SIRI strongly encourages applicants to utilise these new online tools for a more streamlined process, physical applications will continue to be accepted. This move underscores Denmark's ongoing efforts to innovate and improve its immigration services.
