Saudi Arabia Reopens to 14 Nations Post-Hajj 2025

Good news for travellers: Saudi Arabia has lifted its temporary visa ban for 14 countries including Nigeria, following the successful Hajj 2025. This means that Umrah, family, and business visas are now available again.

The ban, in place since April 2025, aimed to prevent overcrowding and misuse of non-Hajj visas during the pilgrimage, thereby ensuring a safer experience following previous incidents in which unregistered pilgrims faced difficulties.

However, a significant restriction remains: Block Work Visas for these same 14 nations are still suspended. This affects companies trying to sponsor foreign workers and is part of Saudi Arabia's larger effort to curb irregular migration and boost national employment.

Authorities are also serious about visa overstaying, warning of severe penalties including deportation, fines up to SAR 50,000 (around USD 13,000), and up to six months in prison. All Umrah visa holders were required to depart by April 29.

Hajj 2025 saw over 175,000 Indian pilgrims among the 1.6 million total from over 150 nations, benefiting from improved services and digital innovations. Saudi Arabia is already planning for Hajj 2026, focusing on technology and healthcare to enhance the pilgrim experience.

While the return of short-term visas is welcome news, the ongoing suspension of Block Work Visas will significantly impact job seekers and industries in the affected countries.
