Starting November 21, 2025, Slovenia will introduce a one-year digital nomad visa, opening its doors to remote workers from outside the EU/EEA. This new permit is designed for individuals employed by, or contracting for, foreign companies. Crucially, local work in Slovenia is strictly prohibited.
This visa is exclusively for non-EU/EEA nationals who work remotely. You must be:
- Employed by a company outside Slovenia.
- A freelancer/contractor for a foreign business.
- Self-employed, serving clients outside Slovenia digitally.
The visa is valid for 12 months and cannot be renewed immediately. However, you can reapply six months after your previous permit expires, making it ideal for short to mid-term stays.
Applicants must show sufficient income to support themselves, proven by employment contracts, payslips, or bank statements. Specific income thresholds would be announced by government regulations.
Dependents of applicants can obtain residence permits with a validity matching that of the main applicant's 12-month permit. Like the main applicant, dependents cannot work locally in Slovenia.
How to Apply
You can apply in two ways:
- Outside Slovenia: At a Slovenian consulate or embassy.
- In Slovenia, at a local administrative unit. If you are applying locally, you will receive a temporary residence certificate while your application is being processed
Key Restrictions
This visa is strictly for remote work. Applicants cannot:
- Work for any Slovenian company.
- Sell goods or services within Slovenia.
- Earn income from any Slovenia-based source. Violation of these rules may lead to visa cancellation.
