The UK is phasing out sticker visas for most work and student visa holders, transitioning to eVisas—digital immigration records accessed via a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account. This change, effective July 15, 2025, aims to digitise and streamline the immigration system.
The UK eVisa replaces physical stickers and biometric cards, requiring linking to a valid passport for all travel and right-to-work checks. This impacts applicants of all nationalities across various work and student visa categories. Eligible applicants will no longer receive a physical vignette.
Applicants must create a UKVI account, link their passport, verify details, and generate a 'share code' for status checks. Dependents, visitors, and those on shorter work or study routes will still get physical stickers for now. While Visa Application Centre (VAC)visits are still for biometrics, passports don't need to be left at the centre.
Employers must ensure new hires set up UKVI accounts and conduct online right-to-work checks, replacing manual document reviews. The UKVI account serves as a central hub for visa status and updates. Importantly, the eVisa doesn't change immigration status or rights.
Travellers must ensure their eVisa is linked to a valid passport and carry their passport and share code.
Expired Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) or Biometric Residence Cards(BRCs) would not be accepted, and unlinked eVisas can lead to boarding denials. Individuals with Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or Indefinite Leave to Enter(ILE) proof are encouraged to apply for a No Time Limit (NTL) eVisa, aligning with the UK's broader digitisation goals.
This shift promises faster, more secure processes, emphasising the need to stay informed.
