Akwa Ibom Senators Urge FG To Reopen International Airport In Uyo

Akwa Ibom State senators have pleaded with the Federal Government to include Akwa Ibom airport among the five international airports meant to be opened on June 21st when it opens aerospace for flight operations.

Senator Albert Bassey Akpan, speaking on behalf of two others from the State revealed that about 105 aircraft fly in and out of the airport weekly.
He further explained that the State government has procured another aircraft recently to be added to the fleet, saying that when the airport is opened, it would boost economic activities of the State.
“Mr President, distinguished colleagues, you are aware that the Federal Government has announced that five international airports will be opening for operations on June 21st across the nation".
“Akwa Ibom international airport serves Aba, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and other parts of Southeast and South-South states, and if included, it would assist air travels to different parts of the country and the world.” Said, Senator Albert Bassey Akpan,
Reacting to the statement, Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan asked the Senate Committee on Aviation to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Aviation to ensure that Akwa Ibom International Airport was among those to be opened by the Federal Government on the stated date.
