He further explained that the State government has procured another aircraft recently to be added to the fleet, saying that when the airport is opened, it would boost economic activities of the State.
“Mr President, distinguished colleagues, you are aware that the Federal Government has announced that five international airports will be opening for operations on June 21st across the nation".
“Akwa Ibom international airport serves Aba, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and other parts of Southeast and South-South states, and if included, it would assist air travels to different parts of the country and the world.” Said, Senator Albert Bassey Akpan,
Reacting to the statement, Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan asked the Senate Committee on Aviation to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Aviation to ensure that Akwa Ibom International Airport was among those to be opened by the Federal Government on the stated date.
