British Airways Called National Disgrace Over Treatment of Worker

UK members of Parliament on Friday said British Airways' treatment of its workforce during the corona virus pandemic is a "national disgrace". 

British Airways has been accused of a calculated attempt to take advantage of the crisis by cutting up to 19,000 jobs and downgrading the terms and conditions of the bulk of the remaining staff.

Other aviation companies like EasyJet PLC, Ryanair Holdings PLC, Virgin Atlantic, Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC and Airbus SE. have also announced thousands of redundancies.

The cross-party committee of MPs acknowledged that job losses in aviation sector will be inevitable as a result of huge reduction in air travel caused by corona virus pandemic.
MPs have urged UK-based employers not to take any harsh action by making large numbers of people redundant while the government's furlough scheme is in place.
The behaviour of British Airways and its parent company (IAG) towards its employees is a national disgrace. It falls well below the standards we would expect from any employer, especially in light of the scale of taxpayer subsidy, at this time of national crisis. MPs said.
BA issued formal notice to unions at the end of April of its plans to lay off staff and reduce terms and conditions. The 45-day minimum period for consultation will pass on Monday, although immediate redundancies are not expected.
The carrier has insisted, no decision has been made yet and it is doing everything possible to sustain as many jobs possible.
