The senate president, Dr. Ahmed Lawan and other members of the National Assembly from the North East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, have protested the exclusion of the geopolitical zone's airport from the list of airports to be reopened by the federal government on the 21st of June.
The protest was made through a statement issued by the lawmakers from the North East, led by Senator Danjuma Goje,on Tuesday. The group of the National Assembly comprises senators and members of the House of Representatives from the zone, among whom are: Senators Ali Ndume and Kashim Shettima.
The group said despite the fact that the zone had several airports, none of them was selected for reopening by the ministry, unlike the other five geopolitical zones where at least one airport would be reopened.
According to the statement, the position of this group was taken after the election of Senator Goje as the leader of the group.
It expressed displeasure at a meeting that was well attended by all the members, including the Senate President.
