A notice issued by The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to Airmen (NOTAM) stated that "it is extending the closure of international air space until October 15, 2020".
NCAA source confirmed that international airports would remain closed until October, adding that there was never a time the federal government gave a specific date of reopening the airspace for international flight operations.
The Minister of aviation says on Tuesday that the circular by Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, is a 90-days routine to airmen not an extension of the ban.
Sirika, however, took to his official Twitter page to clarify that "International Flight
resumption date is not October. NAMA just issued a routine 90-day Notices to
Airmen (NOTAM). In liaison with Health, Foreign Affairs & PTF COVID-19, we
will announce the agreed date, regardless of the ban by Europe, UAE, etc. May be
earlier than October"The Minister of aviation says on Tuesday that the circular by Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, is a 90-days routine to airmen not an extension of the ban.
Members of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), had made a passionate appeal to the authority to lift the ban it placed on international flights in March. Saying that, If countries like Egypt, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK with the worst cases of coronavirus could open their borders for international flights, then our Government can open its border if it will be for limited flights.
"Since evacuation flights were being carried out virtually every day, since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the Federal Government could lift the ban on international flights even if it would allow few flights per week". NANTA President, Susan Akporiaye said in a statement.
Travel agents across the country have been crying over the huge losses they have incurred as a result of the ban imposed on international flights.
Some members of NANTA have called on the Government of Nigeria both federal and state, to please come to the aid of the people in the aviation industry by organizing palliatives in the form of soft loans specially designed for the people in this sector, to enable them to pick up again from the losses incurred.
They should at least consider the travel agents & lift the ban since some countries have done same
