Tunisia Reopens To Tourism

Tunisia has opened to tourism after a break of more than three months due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Beaches are now opened to tourists after charter flights resumed to the North African country.


Some 155 mask-clad holiday markers from Germany, France, and Luxemburg were welcomed on the resort of island Djerba with temperature checks but also by hostesses offering them 'bouquets of jasmine'
"We can't save the whole season, but we will do everything we can to save part of it". Tourism Minister Mohamed Ali Toumi, who was at the airport to welcome the Luxair flight said.
Tunisia who officially registered about 1,374 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 50 deaths, reopened its border on the 27 June and travelers from countries it classifies as green, including France, Germany, and Luxemburg are not subject to any Covid-19 restrictions.
Tourism accounts for between eight and 14 percent of Tunisia's GDP and employs around five hundred thousand people.
According to the official figures, The virus crisis has hit the sector so hard. Tourism revenues declined by around 50 percent between January 1 and July 10, compared to the same time in 2019,
