American Airlines To Lay Off 19,000 Workers In October

American Airlines Group has announced its plans to shed 19,000 workers on the 1st of October, as the airline prepares to downsize to cope with weak demand for travel amid the coronavirus pandemic.

American’s cuts which together with retirements and temporary leaves of absence will make the carrier about 30 percent smaller than it was in the first quarter of the year are the clear sign yet of the devastation coming for the airline industry as the summer travel season winds down and government funds run out.

Hundreds of thousands of jobs have been lost in the aviation sector globally as the industry is the worst and directly hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
