Middle East airlines, Emirates, and Etihad Airways have asked their cabin crew to voluntarily take unpaid leave as the airlines continue to struggle through the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
While Etihad airline through an internal memo stated that the airline has more crew than needed and that many are not being rostered on flights, which is not sustainable for the business.
The crew can take between 10 days to six months of unpaid leave from 16 September.
The aviation industry is one of the worst-hit sectors by the pandemic and Emirates and Etihad airlines have cut thousands of jobs in the process.

An airline spokesperson who confirmed that unpaid leave had been offered did not disclose how many crews had accepted it.
Emirates and Etihad have been resuming passenger services gradually since June after they both grounded flights in March.
