The Federal Government on Monday said a fine of $3,500 per passenger will be paid by any airline who airlifts passengers without COVID-19 test as the country prepares to reopen its borders for international flights.
The new protocol which was introduced by the federal government with just five days to the resumption of international flight operations was disclosed by the national coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Sani Aliyu, at the PTF daily press briefing in Abuja.
He said the negative COVID-19 test result remained an important requirement for each passenger before boarding and upon arrival in Nigeria. He also warned that any airline that fails to comply with the directive would pay a fine of $3,500 per passenger.
“We will continue with the policy that airlines will only board passengers without symptoms of COVID-19 and with negative PCR results". Aliyu said.
Speaking on the new measure that would start on 29 August when international flights resume, the coordinator said: "passengers coming into the country must present a negative COVID-19 test result that was within seven days and proof of payment for a repeat PCR result in the country".
“Passengers will be asked to proceed on self-isolation at home for seven days, and on day 7, they will proceed to their sample collection center for a repeat of PSR test and by day 8, they will be allowed to reunite with the society".
