Travelers from 16 countries where Covid-19 infection rate is deemed to be high, including Brazil and the United States will be subject to compulsory testing on arrival at French airports. French Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Friday during his visit to Charles-de-Gaulle international airport, Paris.
France has placed a ban on general travel to and from these countries, which include Brazil and the United States.
France suspends flights to Brazil and the US, allowing entry into the country in case of special circumstances only.
Passengers who test positive will be subject to 14-day isolation to prevent the spread of the virus.
Arriving passengers will also have to present a negative COVID-19 test certificate made not earlier than 72 hours before departure, Castex said.
Along with the United States and Brazil, with tens of thousands of new cases every day, other countries include Algeria, Bahrain, Israel, India, South Africa, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Panama, Peru, Serbia, Turkey, and Madagascar.
Morocco, which has reported rising cases in recent weeks, is currently not on the list but could be added later, official says.
