NLC Orders Airlines To Reinstate Sacked Workers

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has threatened to shut down Turkish Airlines, Air Peace, and  Bristow Helicopters if the three airlines failed to reinstate their sacked workers within the next two weeks.

The President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, who condemned the recent massive sack of pilots and other workers by the airlines said the union will not hesitate to mobilize the weight of the Nigerian workforce to the premises of the carriers concern if they failed to reverse their decisions.

“We will not hesitate to mobilize the weight of the entire Nigerian workforce to the premises of Turkish Air, Air Peace, and Bristow Helicopters if our demands are not met,” Wabba said.

“We call on the management of Turkish Air, Air Peace, and Bristow Helicopters to reinstate all the sacked workers within two weeks,” he added.

Wabba described the action as highly insensitive, callous, and unjust. Saying, social dialogue should have been used to resolve such a situation.

He lamented that the sack was traumatic for workers who were still struggling to recover from the effect and difficulties from the recent lockdowns due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.
