Madagascar has announced the reopening of its borders to tourism from Thursday, October 1 after six months' closure. The country has since March closed its borders to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
The authorities of the Indian Ocean island said the October 1 reopening will be partial and returning to the new normal will be gradual. For now, tourists will be allowed to visit the island of Nosy Be only.
Nosy Be, is one of Madagascar’s famous beach destinations that has all the ingredients visitors are looking forward to seeing: soft white sand, turquoise waters, and wonderful seafood. A paradise for water-based activities with its sunny climate most of the year, diving is the top draw, and there is plenty of swimming, snorkeling, sailing, as well as fishing.
Reports have confirmed that travel to the mainland of Madagascar is not yet allowed. But, Tourist sites, museums, and national parks have been opened to welcome locals visitors since early September.
The requirements for entering into Madagascar are similar to other countries', these include a presentation of a negative PCR test certificate obtained within 72 hours before flights, completing a health form, and submitting to temperature checks upon arrival, with other restrictions still in place. Travelers must have a return ticket, sign a ‘letter of commitment’ that promises to abide by the country’s COVID-19 health rules, and carry a local phone card for proper monitoring. Putting on a face mask is also compulsory.
