Nigeria Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika on Friday, took to his twitter handle to announce the suspension of Emirates airlines from Nigeria which would take effect from today, Monday 21, September.
The suspension has been generating a lot of questions from many quarters as the Minister did not give full details of the review that led to the suspension of Emirates airlines' operations.
According to the Minister, “Emirates Airlines' situation was reviewed, and they are consequently included in the list of those not approved, with effect from Monday, September 21, 2020.” He twitted.
Emirates airlines was one of the major airlines approved to operate flights to/from Nigeria upon the resumption of international flights on the 5th of September, hoping that the UAE government would grant more Nigerians access into the country by granting their fresh visa applications, but the UAE government has since refused to open its portal to receive new visa applications from Nigerians. This actually led to a change of decisions by the FG, to disapprove emirates airlines from operating commercial flights into and out of the country.
The federal government of Nigeria has ahead of the resumption of the international flights announced that the country would apply the principle of reciprocity in granting permission to airlines that would resume operations in the country. It added that only airlines from countries that allow flights from Nigeria would be allowed to fly into and out of the country. The reason behind the non-approval of KLM, Air France, and Lufthansa airlines.
Emirates situation may be reviewed again, as soon as the UAE government does what the Nigerian government wanted before the approval as the country may reverse visa restrictions on Nigeria any moment from now.

They have been served from their own medicine.. tit for tat, we are watching.
