UK's Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has confirmed that the UK will commence airport testing for COVID-19 this month. This was disclosed by the Chief Executive Officer of Heathrow airport, John Holland-Kaye while speaking to Travel Weekly.
John Holland-Kaye confirmed that the Prime Minister said that ministers were planning to begin testing trials in the month of October. He said: “It would take a couple of weeks to put into practice, but if we get good results, there is no reason we shouldn’t be able to extend it.”
He added that if such trials are implemented, it would be a huge success for the aviation sector, which has been pushing for the policy for some months.
Many countries have already introduced the policy, but the UK government has not yeilded despite pressure from different corners.
Introducing such a system will serve as an alternative to the current policy for international passengers which have to self-isolate for two weeks on their return from most destinations across the globe.
The announcement on airport testing is expected to come up in few days.
