First Qatar Airways Flight Lands In Abuja

Qatar Airways operated the first flight to the FCT, Abuja today. 


According to the airline, Qatar Airways will now be operating three weekly flights services from Abuja, Nigeria via Lagos as the two cities become the sixth new destination announced by the airline since the resumption of flights after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are excited to land in the capital of Nigeria today, our second destination in Nigeria. I am proud to say Abuja is the sixth new destination we have launched since the start of the pandemic. With the strong Nigerian diaspora in Europe, the U.S, and the UK, we are thrilled to now be flying three times weekly to Abuja via Lagos. We look forward to working closely with our partners in Nigeria to steadily grow this route and support the recovery of tourism and trade in the region.” Mr. Hendrik Du Preez, Qatar Airways Vice-President, Africa said in a statement.

The reports also have it that Nigerian female pilot, Adeola Ogunmola Sowemimo was on the seat assisting Captain Khan Sameer Ali during the flight. Adeola sets the record as she has become Nigeria's first female Boeing 787 pilot and the first Nigerian female pilot to fly Qatar Airways.
