China has joined the list of countries suspending flights to and from the UK.
China on Thursday announced its decision to suspend air connection with the United Kingdom due to the rise of Covid-19 in the UK and the emergence of a more infectious strain of coronavirus.
According to the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Wenbin: "The measure was taken considering the specific nature of the virus and its possible impact, and also to protect the health of Chinese and foreign citizens."
Wang Wenbin further stated that the decision followed a thorough analysis of the situation and the position taken by other countries.
Beijing will monitor the issue closely and adjust the epidemiological control mechanism as it evolves. Wang added.
Hong Kong and China's Sichuan Airlines had suspended flights to and from the UK before China announced its decision.
Reports have it that no fewer than 40 countries have so far taken the decision to ban UK's flights from entering their countries.
