German national carrier, Lufthansa airline has announced its plans to cut up to 40,000 jobs as the company struggles to cope with the effect of the coronavirus pandemic on the business.
The company which would have cut about 30,000 jobs by the end of the year 2020, says is planning to cut about 10,000 jobs more in the coming year.
The national carrier and its subsidiaries have reduced their schedules, fleet, as well as workers with the travel industry not expected to recover to pre-pandemic levels until 2025.
Meanwhile, a deal to cut costs and save jobs at Lufthansa has won the support of a majority of the Verdi trade union members who work for the German airline as ground staff. A source has confirmed.
