Air passengers in Nigeria have lamented the high cost of flight tickets and call on the government to step into the situation.
Meanwhile, airline operators in the country have explained the reasons why airfares are very expensive.
According to the operators, one of the reasons for the increase in ticket fares being experienced by travelers in recent times is because of the current rate of exchange. Saying, that the current rate of exchange is responsible for the high cost of ticket fares in the county. Presently, the value of one dollar is between N480 to N500 as against N365 before the lockdown.
Also, the upsurge is because of the current high season as many people go for the end of the year holidays at this period. During this period, the demand always outweighs the capacity making it difficult to secure cheaper seats.
There are limited flights to various destinations as most of the airlines are yet to bounce back from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and are unable to cover all the networks they had before the lockdown.
However, the government of Nigeria has advised passengers lamenting about the high fare to patronize airlines with lower prices as the government has no power to fix prices for any airline.
