US President Joe Biden has said he will re-impose a Covid-19 travel ban on most non-US citizens who have been in Britain, Brazil, Ireland, South Africa, and most parts of Europe where a new more virulent strain of Covid-19 has been identified. A White House official confirmed on Sunday, as Biden led administration ramps up its pandemic response.
The restriction has been in effect during most of the past year but had been rescinded by the immediate past President Donald Trump days before his tenure ended.
Biden has since taken office last Wednesday, promised to take an aggressive approach toward combating the deadly virus that has claimed about 420,000 lives and infected more than 25 million people across the United State.
The new president also tightened mask-wearing rules and ordered quarantine for people flying into the United States, as he seeks to tackle the country’s worsening coronavirus crisis.
