Nigeria has on Tuesday received 3.94 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
An Emirate plane Boeing 777300ER carrying the 3.94 million doses of vaccine arrives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja Nigeria at about 11:36 Hours on Tuesday, March 2. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) confirmed.
The reports also have it that the vaccine shipment is from COVAX, a global scheme to procure and distribute inoculations for free, as the world makes moves to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
Nigeria is now the third African country to receive the vaccine as Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire have earlier received. The COVAX facility was launched in 2020 to ensure a fairer distribution of the coronavirus vaccine among different nations.
The 3.94 million doses are Nigeria’s first shipment out of the 16 million doses expected in the country.
