Country Where People Rub Themselves In Mud During Festival

Every country across the globe has one festival or the other to celebrate. On such occasions, people do have one thing in common irrespective of their languages, culture, and tribe.

South Korea is not an exception as the country has its own unique way of celebrating an annual festival that comes up every July. With a festival to celebrate almost everything from fireflies and ice fishing to bullfighting and body painting, there’s no shortage of mass festivities occurring at any given time in the country. There is no other festival like the Boryeong Mud Festival in South Korea in terms of international attendance, government spending, and dirtiness.

Boryeong Mud Festival is an annual festival celebrated in two weeks every July. Thousands flock from around Korea to Boryeong, a small, sleepy town situated on the country’s western coast for the Boryeong Mud Festival.

People also travel from other countries as far as Europe, America, and other parts of Asia to experience some good quaint mud wrestling, mud sliding, and dirt swimming– activities that constitute what has in recent years become the number one Korean festival of all time.

The event was established in 1999 with an intention to market cosmetics made from the region's mud. It now accounts for many dollars in revenue annually. Consistent with event organizers, Boryeong mud is high in minerals, especially germanium and bentonite, and it emits large amounts of far- infrared rays, which are particularly beneficial for the skin.

This year, Mudfest will run from 21 to 30 July, but to experience it all together with its glory, intending visitors have been advised to schedule their visit during the weekend when the most important events and activities usually happen.
