Ethiopian Airlines has announced its readiness to commence operations to and from Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. A statement from the airline confirmed that the carrier is fully set to resume flight operations to Enugu Airport as soon as the federal government gives approval for the airport to start international flight operations.
The airlines' Manager, Senait Atakle disclosed this during a meeting with the Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji in Abuja.
According to Ataklet, the airline is planning to introduce cargo services to the airport to cater for the needs of its South Eastern passengers.
She added that Ethiopian Airlines, being the leading airline in the continent would like to be the first to land in Akanu Ibiam International Airport when it eventually reopened for international flight operations.
Ataklet also solicited support from the federal government through the committee that Ethiopian Airlines was ready and willing to assist the federal government of Nigeria in setting up a national carrier if given the opportunity. She stressed that the airline has attained a level of experience and capabilities in airline management and aircraft maintenance, which would be put at the disposal of the proposed new national carrier.
