DANA AIR & IBOM AIR SIGN CODESHARE DEAL

Dana Air and Ibom Air have agreed to enter into a codesharing deal on local routes. The agreement means both Dana Air and Ibom passengers can now travel on codeshare from Lagos to more destinations across the country.

The deal which will take effect in June materializes
a year after the two operators began deliberation on how to increase frequencies.

According to Dana Air Chief Operating Officer (COO) Obi Mbanuzuo, “This is the first of its kind for domestic airlines in Nigeria and a huge step in the right direction for both Dana Air and Ibom Air.”

“The alliance will offer increased frequencies into common destinations, as well as codeshare flights into destinations each airline does not operate into, providing more options for passengers and business retention for both airlines,”  the COO says.

Ibom Air started commercial flight operations in June 2019 and operates day-to-day flights from Abuja (ABV) and Lagos (LOS) to mostly Southern and Eastern parts of the country like Uyo (QUO),  Port Harcourt (PHC), Calabar (CBQ), and Enugu (ENU). While Dana Air operates flight services from Abuja and Lagos to Enugu (ENU), Port Harcourt (PHC), and Owerri (QOW).

The codeshare agreement between the two carriers comes as startup Green Africa prepares to begin flight operations on June 24. The Lagos-based LCC has so far taken delivery of two ATR 72-600 aircraft, with a third expected soon.

Founder and CEO Babawande Afolabi said earlier this month, “This is a pivotal milestone on this journey, and we are delighted that the Green Africa vision is becoming a reality. The airline will fly from Lagos (LOS) to Abuja (ABV), Akure (AKR), Enugu (ENU), Ilorin (ILR), Port Harcourt (PHC), and Owerri (QOW).
