Heathrow Airport Clocks 75

London Heathrow is celebrating its birthday as the Airport clocks 75.

London Heathrow Airport was opened for civilian aviation in 1946 and has received more than 2.5 billion travelers through its doors in the last 75 years. The airport has also played host to some of Britain’s most memorable moments ranging from the Beatles returning to the United Kingdom as global superstars in 1964 to the arrival of the Queen onto sovereign soil for the first time as the reigning monarch.

“Over the past 75 years, Heathrow has undergone an incredible transformation, from a once military airport to a national asset and globally recognized brand." Heathrow CEO, John Holland Kaye, said in a statement.

“As we cast our eyes forward to the next 75 years, I look forward to watching Heathrow recover from its worst year to grow from strength to strength, protecting the benefits of aviation for future generations to come,”  Kaye added.

To commemorate the event, travelers, colleagues, and members of the community have been asked to come out with any known story or event relating to the history of Heathrow airport.
